Achievements

A list of recent achievments and work.

- Our Chair was appointed to ICANN Nominating Committee.

- Consulted with the Law Commission on Privacy issues

- Initiated the roll out of Internationalised Domain Names in .nz

- Consulted with the Ministry of Culture and Heritage Broadcasting paper

- Consulted with Internal Affairs regarding electronic identities.

- Made several submissions to Domain Name Commissioner regarding policies

- Consulted with government over their Digital Strategy.

- Provided facts and information to TUANZ regarding Maori and the Internet.

- Made a complaint to ProDNS regarding false WHOIS details on a derogatory <.maori.nz> domain name. Result: Domain name was cancelled.

- Made a complaint to the Domain Name Commissioner regarding the inappropriate use of <www.maori.nz> which was being used to promote a political party web site. This domain was not made public when maori.nz was launched. The reason the Domain Name Commissioner agreed to not make it public was to promote the usage of .maori.nz . Result: Redirect was cancelled.

- Made a complaint to the Domain Name Commissioner and WINZ regarding the inappropriate use of <dole.maori.nz> which was pointed to <http://www.winz.govt.nz>. Result: Redirect was cancelled and domain name was not renewed.

- Sent letters to a number of Maori organizations promoting the usage of .maori.nz . Result: More Maori organizations aware of .maori.nz as this was the first campaign to promote .maori.nz .

- Had a representative on the 2nd Level Domain Name review group for the Domain Name Commissioner and InternetNZ.

- Made the only submission on behalf of MÄ?ori re the 2nd Level Domain Name review advocating the need to keep .iwi.nz and .maori.nz . Result: iwi.nz and .maori.nz are still available.

- Sent a representative to the World Summit on the Information Society Global Forum of Indigenous People and the Information Society in Geneva December 2003. Result: maori have an International voice.

- Provided several free self help books from its web site including how Iwi can protect themselves in cyber space.

- Approached for a second time a cyber squatter who has taken many Iwi and other sensitive MÄ?ori names.

- Supported an application by Ngai Tahu to receive computers for a "Computers in Homes" project. Result: Ngai Tahu application was successful.
